Melbourne Opera presents Lucia di Lammermoor, Donizetti’s gripping tale of love and betrayal set in the stormy hills of Scotland. Based on Sir Walter Scott’s The Bride of Lammermoor, the opera follows the doomed romance between Lucia Ashton and Edgardo of Ravenswood, whose noble families are bitter enemies. Forced into a political marriage by her brother Enrico in a desperate bid to save their fortunes, Lucia is pushed to the brink of madness. Soprano Elena Xanthoudakis returns in the title role, joined by tenor Henry Choo and baritone Simon Meadows. Directed by Suzanne Chaundy, this powerful bel canto work promises a compelling evening of drama and vocal brilliance.
